NAIDOC Cup

Navy Men claim NAIDOC Cup

Led strongly by team captain Jamie Young the Navy Men remained unbeaten all day. Thanks to the help of some youngish Vets early in the day the men won their first game 6-0, allowing their captain to net a hatrick. Following this the men played out another 3-2 win and a 2-2 draw. Their most impressive game was their last when they whitewashed the opposition in a 10-1 victory to claim the tournament Cup.

Unfortunatley for the Vets, the day didn't go so well. They failed to defend their title but recieved the Veterans Shield finishing as runners up. Congratulations to Sarah Hickling who finished up with the Golden Boot in the Ladies competition playing for a civilian team 'Simply MAD' who also won the Ladies competition.

A special thanks to Smokey Cole, Jamie Young and Micheal Clout for pulling together and organising teams following it being postponed from the previous Friday.

Johnny Warren Cup

Navy Womens Football Claim Johnny Warren Memorial Cup in First Year at Jamberoo

For the first year, the Navy Football Federation (Navy FFA) entered a Ladies and a Men?s Over 35?s team into the 7 a side Johnny Warren Memorial cup tournament held at Jamberoo on the South Coast over the weekend 6-7 February. With over 76 teams from all over the coast participating, competition was tough; the Over 35?s going undefeated on day one, conceding their first loss on day 2, taking them out of the running for the Grand Final spot.

The Navy Women opened up the tournament with a dominant performance over a local Nowra side, winning the game with a spectacular goal from team captain, POML-SC Sarah Hickling. From then the competition kept coming, however the Navy Women were just too strong winning their subsequent games 4-0 and 10-0, taking them into the Grand Final against the defending champions from Sydney. The Navy Women went out strong, playing some fine football with the first goal as a result of a perfect 4-pass combination and goal from POML-SC Hickling. With outstanding performances from ABML-SC Amanda Carney and POMED Nikki Furlong the Navy Women dominated the Grand Final to claim the Johnny Warren Memorial Cup from a 3-0 annihilation of the defending champions. Navy FFA Operations Officer, LEUT Kellie Brown stated ?The girls played some outstanding football and this is just what Navy FFA needs to continue to build the profile and reputation of Navy Football. It?s an exciting year ahead, that?s for sure.?
